Loukoumades are a popular Greek dessert made of deep-fried dough balls that are golden and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. After frying, honey is drizzled over, which gives loukoumades a sweet and sticky coating. They are then often sprinkled with cinnamon or chopped nuts like walnuts or sesame seeds.
Loukoumades are commonly enjoyed during festivals, special occasions, and celebrations in Greece. They have a long history and are considered a traditional treat in Greek cuisine. The exact preparation and toppings can vary, but the combination of the airy, fried dough and the sweet syrup is a consistent characteristic.
