Taste it…
Maybe you want to have some friends over. Maybe you want to connect with some new co-workers. Or maybe you have a creative project and want to get feedback on it. Whatever it is, the way you create space and connect with your group makes all the difference. Greek Wonders proposes to do it the Greek way., by sharing food and stories, wine tasting and infusing a sense of humor, in the Greek tradition.
Tell its stories...
What kinds of stories do you share with your family, friends, or classmates? Are they stories about things you've done? Stories other people have shared with you? Stories from your imagination?
3,000 years ago, Greeks shared myths—stories about the adventures of gods and heroes. They used myths to give accounts of their past history. They went to theaters to watch plays based on myths. Greek artists painted scenes from myths on walls, vases, jars, and cups.
Plan a get together to share tales from the Greek Mythology and write your own ending to them.
Dance to its music...
Music, singing and dancing is ingrained in the Greek culture. It is said that every Greek creates lyrics or music, and that many of us keep a little diary with poems and lyrics in our drawers. For many, nothing expresses our passions and desires like Greek music, in its diversity and richness, in all its kinds and genres.
Genres include Rebetika (urban songs from the early 20th century) , laika (popular) , kantades ( the songs from the Ionian Islands), mantinades (the rhythmic poem –songs from Crete), political songs, songs from Minor Asia and modern songs with more urban sound, quite different than songs in the 50s or 60s, in many rhythms and dances.
Host an evening of dancing syrtaki or Zeibekiko together, toasting a friend, celebrating a promotion, graduation or other event.
